My background is as a school teacher and yoga teacher. I have my own studio in Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria and work with mindfulness in movement in a challenging dynamic practice. I have been teaching yoga for 6 years. I enjoy all sports. I dance, swim, run, ride horses and have started sailing. I have used the Yoga Sports Science® techniques in my general classes, private lessons and with sailors.
I continue to work with my athlete and would like to work with teams of sailors to prevent injury, improve agility and mental focus. I am looking forward to doing the YSS Advanced Coaching course!
YSS Case Study Research: Sailing
The Aim: To explore whether a Sports Specific Yoga program could improve the flexibility of the back in competitive sailors.
Athlete Profile: A sailor, 45 aiming to rehabilitate from herniated disks in neck and recover flexibility in his back to improve general movement efficiency when sailing.
The Conclusion: I worked with the athlete for a 10 week period, during that time flexibility and general movement efficiency improved. He became pain free despite the severity of his injuries.
During my time as a trainee Yoga Sports Coach, I decided to work with a sailor because I found the sport really interesting and complex. Also because of the extensive culture of sailing there is in Gran Canaria. My study has inspired me to want to learn to sail.
