I have been teaching yoga for over 15 years and also run a yoga teacher training course. I am also a British Wheel of Yoga and Senior Yoga Alliance registered teacher and a massage therapist.
I have also provided 1-1 training for several distance runners and have held sport-specific yoga sessions for the UK Athletics sprinters and hurdlers at the Sports Training Village at Bath University.
YSS Case Study Research: Road Cycling
The Aim: To establish whether a sport-specific yoga programme could enhance the respiratory efficiency and endurance of a competitive road cyclist and concurrently improve overall movement mechanics.
Athlete Profile: A cyclist – mid 20’s, who wanted to get first cap and to relieve leg pain.
Conclusion: As a result of a 10 week intervention, delivering the specific programme, improvements were made in respiratory efficiency and endurance and the cyclist was able to race without pain, with an increased level of concentration and in a higher category than when he started the intervention. He also acquired techniques to manage anxiety.
As an experienced yoga teacher I am used to deriving tailormade programmes for individuals to include movement, breath, relaxation and meditation techniques. I have worked with people from all ages and backgrounds to enhance performance, mindfulness and life quality.
